Five people from the same family were taken into custody for “acts of torture against animals”. The 132 rescued dogs have been distributed to shelters.
It is a sinister discovery made by the gendarmes in the North on Wednesday. A hundred abused dogs were found in two houses in Haubourdin and a kennel at the exit of Wavrin.
Residents who live near the 2 Louveteaux kennel say they have heard dogs “howling to death all day”. A woman also told BFM Grand Lille that she had picked up her “scared” and “sick” dog after leaving her in the kennel for a week. The animal would not have had water available in its enclosure.
A total of 132 abused dogs were rescued by the gendarmerie. They were distributed in different shelters in the North and in the Paris region.
A family in custody
Five people from the same family were taken into custody for “serious abuse” and “acts of torture against animals”. It is a man, his wife, his two sons and the wife of one of them.
Very involved in the canine sector, in particular through their pension activity, they now risk up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
Animal abuse is not the only reason for their arrest. They are also implicated in a tax evasion case.
