A gendarme killed a Belgian shepherd dog, of the Malinois type, this Tuesday morning in front of the gendarmerie of Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne). The animal and one of its congeners had attacked a spaniel walked by its 66-year-old owner. The mastiff had seized its prey by the throat when two soldiers intervened to try to stop it, says

The malinois proving impossible to control, one of the gendarmes fired. Seriously affected but still alive, the attacked dog was taken to the vet. His mistress was taken care of by the firefighters and taken to the hospital after injuring her back in the fall.
The owner of the Belgian Shepherds arrived on the scene shortly after the attack began and managed to control the second animal. A straying investigation has been initiated. The Malinois would have escaped the supervision of their master by leaving a courtyard where work was taking place.
