Google enters F1 with McLaren

McLaren announced a major multi-year partnership with Google, as the new official partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team and the McLaren MX Extreme E team from 2022.

The partnership will bring the best of Google products to McLaren to deliver a more seamless technology experience across all devices. Throughout the season, McLaren will use 5G-enabled Android devices and the Chrome browser in all its operations during practice sessions, qualifying and races to help the drivers and the team, with the aim of improving the track performance.

Android and Chrome branding will be worn on the bonnet and hubcaps of MCL36 Formula 1 racing cars, as well as on the helmets and racing suits of McLaren Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo from the 2022 season of Formula 1. Meanwhile, Google branding will also be seen on McLaren MX Extreme E race car number 58 and on the race suits of McLaren MX Extreme E drivers Emma Gilmour and Tanner Foust from the 2022 Island X Prize.

We are absolutely delighted and proud to welcome Google to the McLaren Racing family. Google is a global technology leader and has been a groundbreaking innovator in connecting people around the world. » said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren.

“By integrating platforms like Android and Chrome into our operations, our team will be better supported to focus on performance. We look forward to an exciting partnership that will extend to Formula 1 and Extreme E.”
