Monaco qualified for the Euroleague play-offs

Monaco is officially in the play-offs. In very favorable ballots since their success in Milan (72-63) on Thursday, AS Monaco mathematically obtained their ticket on Friday thanks to the defeat of Berlin (77-87) in Istanbul against European champion Anadolu who also punched his place in the top 8 of the Euroleague.

With its fourteen victories, Monaco can no longer be beaten on the wire by Berlin (11), which had beaten it in the first leg (92-84) and will travel to the principality on Friday April 8 for the 34th day.

This qualification of the Monegasque club for its first participation is also a first for the French Championship in the modern Euroleague. Never had an LNB club reached a Euroleague top 8 since 2002. The previous one was Asvel, in 2001 (FIBA Suproligue quarter-finals) and 2000 (FIBA Euroleague quarter-finals).

ASM kills two birds with one stone since it also secures its place in the event next season, a new invitation being granted to the best placed – provided they reach the Top 8 – of the teams from the Eurocoupe, which is the case of Monaco, winner of the event in 2021. Its competitor Kazan, finalist 2021, was out of the running since the eviction of Russian clubs following the invasion of Ukraine.

6th place still possible

Monaco can now aim for the best possible place before the quarter-finals in the best of five matches (April 19-22 with the best placed, April 26-29 with the worst placed, possible match 5 on May 4). Monaco can now finish 6th, 7th or 8th before the quarter-finals in the best of five matches (April 19-22 with the best placed, April 26-29 with the worst placed, possible match 5 on May 4) against FC Barcelona , Real Madrid, Olympiakos or Milan guaranteed to have home advantage. Maccabi Tel Aviv, Anadolu Efes, Monaco and Bayern Munich, who also qualified on Friday by beating Red Star Belgrade (82-57), complete the quarter-finals.
