PSG eliminated by Salzburg in the quarter-finals of the Youth League

European disappointments follow one another for PSG. A week after its elimination in the knockout stages of the Champions League (1-3 against Real Madrid), the capital club was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Youth League, this Wednesday in front of Salzburg (1- 3). The players of Zoumana Camara had however started the meeting in the best possible way, taking advantage of an Austrian defense not yet in place to open the scoring in the first minute on a movement concluded by Michut (1-0). The start of a first half-hour of high flight for the Parisians, dominating in all sectors and who multiplied the opportunities to double the score (9th, 12th, 26th, 31st).

A controversial equalizer

The debates would switch a few minutes before half-time, on a controversial game situation. On a Parisian possession in midfield, Zaire-Emery was jostled by Kameri. Continuing, DiakitĂ© took advantage of a scoring foul from Bitshuabu to equalize (1-1, 37′). Only concern: the referee validated the Austrian goal before giving a warning to Kameri, thus admitting that there was a fault on Zaire-Emery at the start of the action. This fact of play, disputed in vain by the Parisians, was going to disorient the beautiful mechanics of Bodiang and his partners. Back from the locker room, Salzburg made an impact and took over.

A second event was to precipitate the fall of the Parisians, visibly affected, who were not going to be able to regain their control and their serenity. On an Austrian clearance, the PSG LavallĂ©e goalkeeper intervened at the wrong time and injured his shoulder on contact. Camara replaced him with Mouquet (63rd) and switched to a three-man defense. Shortly after, Salzburg took the lead on a strike from Kameri repelled by Mouquet who could only accompany Simic’s header into his net (2-1, 72nd). Paris pushed but, lacking weight and accuracy in front, Salzburg took off in added time, Reischl taking advantage of a failed recovery from Bitshuabu to ensure their qualification for the Final 4 (3-1, 90th + 2). For PSG, it will not be for this year yet.
