Qualifying – Fabio Quartararo will start 6th, Aleix Espargaro in pole position

He kept the helmet on his shoulders. And when Fabio Quartararo, the reigning world champion, does that after a qualifying session or a race, he’s not satisfied. How could it be? On pole in the last race, finished in second position, the French driver will only start sixth for the Argentine Grand Prix this Sunday. His Yamaha didn’t measure up as he finished more than half a second off the top time set by Aleix Espargaro on Aprilla.

Quartararo could well curse Jack Miller after this qualification following an extended day, free practice shifted to this Saturday oblige. The Australian hampered him during his second flying lap which promised a lot. A third time, and therefore on the front line, “El Diablo” gradually fell back to fail at the end of the second line, a lesser evil. He will therefore start behind Espargaro but also Jorge Martin (Pramac), second and Lucas Marini (Mooney) who completes the front row. On the second, Quartararo will be accompanied by Pol Espargaro (Honda) and Maverick Vinales (Aprilla) who did not achieve the same feat as his poleman teammate.

“I had never seen him so dejected”: Should Marquez say stop?

Only satisfaction for Quarataro, the two pilots who are ahead of him in the world championship after two races, namely Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder, will start behind him. The first, winner of the inaugural race in Qatar, only took 13th place in qualifying just behind the second. And even Miguel Oliveira, fourth in the driver standings, failed (16th). The one following the Portuguese is none other than the other tricolor, Johann Zarco, but the Pramac driver did not shine, finishing the qualification in 9th place after having missed in the final sector of his last lap.
