she lived with about forty cats in her apartment

It would be about thirty, even forty cats who lived in this apartment in the city center of Villefranche-sur-Saône.

At the start of the year, the Humane Society (SPA) received a report concerning an overpopulation of cats in an apartment in downtown Villefranche-sur-Saône. After taking up the case, the municipal hygiene service went to the home in question.

According to our colleagues from Progrès, this accommodation, consisting of 4 rooms, was inhabited by a woman.
Faced with this overpopulation of cats, the first contact proved difficult according to Alexandre Portier, elected in charge of security in Villefranche-sur-Saône. Since the cats were not affected by major illnesses, some were very thin and lived in conditions that were apparently not optimal.

Damaged by scratches, the place was imbued with a strong smell of urine and excrement which constituted “a real nuisance for the neighborhood”. A month later, the SPA made a new visit and confirmed that the environment was unsuitable for such a concentration of cats. In order to find a viable solution and relieve the owner, the deputy mayor indicated that 10 other cats were taken away.

This Sunday, the Chats libre de Villefranche-Beaujolais collective indicated in a Facebook post that it had saved six cats. The traumatized owner of the first intervention, was in tears when parting again from some of these pets.

According to Alexandre Portier, no sanction against the Caladoise is currently envisaged. “We are faced with situations where we have to remain human.”
