Snow-white Chihuahua thrown in a container: an investigation opened by the Orleans prosecutor’s office

It was in the middle of a pile of garbage that a female chihuahua was found, Saturday 8 October, at the recycling center in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire. The animal was in a bin intended for “all comers”, which the compactor roller was crushingwhen the agents of the Intermunicipal Syndicate for the collection and treatment of household waste (Sictom) saw him.

The facts had angered the pound of Fay-aux-Loges, who had condemned on his social networks an animal thrown away “as normal waste”.

But the chihuahua’s rightful owner has since come forward: “She went to the pound explaining that his dog had been stolen from his home”says Aurélie Scoth, animal agent at the Fay-aux-Loges pound.

A disappearance reported to several vets

“We could see that this lady had a lot of pictures and videos of her dog, that she had actually reported her disappearance to several Loiret vetsand that the animal was well followed by one of them.”

Snow white, the female chihuahua, was therefore returned to her owner on Tuesday 11 October.

On his side, the Orleans prosecutor’s office says it has opened an investigation for “voluntarily abandoning a domestic, domesticated or captive animal” after revealing it “with immediate or imminent risk of death”.

The investigations were entrusted to the gendarmerie brigade of Châteauneuf-sur-Loire.

Up to four years in prison

If the surrender of a farm animal, tamed or kept in captivity, can at most three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 eurosabandoning “intentionally under conditions that present an immediate or imminent risk of death to the animal” is considered an aggravating circumstance, reminds the prosecutor’s office in Orleans.
