FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday the signing of the long-awaited sponsorship contract with Spotify, the world leader in audio streaming, for four seasons. From the 2022/2023 season, the name of the Swedish giant will appear on the front part of the match and training shirts of Barça’s men’s and women’s teams. And, major change, the Camp Nou will take from July the name of Spotify Camp Nou.
A contract at 70 million euros per year?
Approved and signed by the club’s board of directors, the agreement will be subject to ratification by the extraordinary assembly of members, which will take place on April 3. Barça did not reveal the figures for the operation with the Swedish firm led by Daniel Ek, a football enthusiast who once wanted to buy Arsenal, but according to several Catalan specialist media, the contract would amount to around 70 million euros per season over four years, which would make it the highest sponsorship contract on the football planet, up to the level of the partnership between Real Madrid and the airline Emirates.
“We are very proud to be able to announce a pioneering alliance like this with a global reference entity like Spotify, said Barca president Joan Laporta. This union will allow us to continue to bring the club closer to its supporters and will make them feel even more like an integral part of the Barça family through unique experiences, which will allow us to combine entertainment and football, touching at the same time a greatest number of people around the world. We continue to move forward in this new era that we have started and which demonstrates, once again, the innovative character and constant improvement that characterizes Barça and that has made it a unique club. »
