The island of Bréhat (Côtes d’Armor) wants to fight the spread of stray cats. For many, these animals pose a danger to the biodiversity of the island, explains Olivier Carré, mayor of Bréhat. “Many bird species” are thus endangered; confirmed the representative France 3 Brittany.
Help for cat owners
To solve the problem, the municipality will first organize a count of cats by identifying those belonging to one resident and the others. The municipality will then only offer help to owners who live on the island: 30 euros for identification with chip and tattoo and 50 euros for sterilization.
The operation has already proven itself on other Breton islands such as Ouessant, Molène or even Sein, reports the regional channel.
