The complaint of the French PEN club against the lawyer Emmanuel Pierrat dismissed

Dissensions between the PEN club and its former president: (without) continuation and end. In a classification notice dated October 7, 2021, the Paris court indicates that the proceedings launched last January against Maître Emmanuel Pierratcontributor to Livres Hebdo, does not warrant criminal prosecution. “The facts or the circumstances of the facts of the procedure could not be clearly established by the investigation. The evidence is therefore not sufficient for the offense to be constituted, and for criminal proceedings to be instituted”, reads the notice, sent to Weekly books by Emmanuel Pierrat.

In January 2021, Antoine Spire, president of the world association defending writers under threat, filed a complaint for breach of trust against the lawyer, ex-president of PEN who had completed his mandate in December 2020. It was about supposed problems of governance, reimbursement of expenses, recruitment or abusive language. The lawyer had defended himself in particular via a right of reply in the press. The public prosecutor in charge of the case therefore agrees with him and pronounces a dismissal.
