The origins of the French Bulldog
This breed of dog is the result of crosses between Terriers and English Bulldogs, carried out in the popular districts of Paris at the end of the 19th century. The objective was then to obtain a small dog. Originally, the French Bulldog had two main functions: rat hunter and guard dog. That is why it was particularly popular with traders and other merchants to monitor warehouses. From the 20th century, he was adopted by people from high society because of his keen intelligence and his particularly endearing character.

The character of the French Bulldog
With a cheerful and playful temperament, the French Bulldog is also a hypersensitive and very affectionate dog who knows how to adapt to the personality of his masters. Intelligent and lively, he can thus be patient and calm when necessary, which makes him the ideal companion for children, and also for the elderly. He is also a very courageous dog who will not hesitate to put himself in danger to protect his masters.
The health of the French Bulldog
Due to its very short muzzle (which also explains its frequent snoring), the French Bulldog can be subject to respiratory problems. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight. It is also sensitive to certain back pathologies, such as the herniated disc which affects many French Bulldogs.
His eyes are also quite fragile and require frequent washing with a suitable lotion. The French Bulldog’s vulnerable health is the breed’s weak point, as UK VetCompass study shows published in the journal Canine Medicine and Genetics. The French Bulldog has a life expectancy of between 9 and 11 years.
The price of the French Bulldog
The price of a male French Bulldog varies from 800 to 3200 euros. The price of a female varies from 750 to 3200 euros. These differences are explained in particular by the pedigree of the parents and the conformity of the animal to the standards of the breed. In the vast majority of cases, the acquisition price of a French Bulldog is between 1000 and 1500 euros. Its annual maintenance cost is around 1000 euros.
