This could really be the case for Google Hangouts – Reuters

Google Hangouts has had the slowest death ever. We started talking about its demise in 2020, shortly after Google released Chat and Meet. Why did you decide to take it off after all these years? Google pushed everyone out of Hangouts for a while, but about a week ago they started forcing Google Workspace users out. This decision is likely the reason for its removal, as it was the last remaining Hangouts users.

If you still want to use Hangouts, I’m sure you can sideload a floating APK. The Internet version of hangouts.google.com Still works great, at least for now. But really, you might as well head to Google Chat. Google at least provides updates and tries to improve it from time to time unlike Hangouts which was left for dead and featureless many moons ago. If you get a new phone, you’ll have to switch to chat anyway.

It’s not completely TEAR on Hangouts for now, but we’re closer than ever.
