Two lawyers assaulted and beaten in their office in the heart of Paris

An off-duty policeman and around thirty passers-by allowed the arrest of the two attackers on Monday, July 5.

Help, help us! Help us !“. It is around 4:30 p.m., Monday July 5, when an off-duty policeman hears calls for help behind his back. The official, who was having a drink on the terrace with a friend on boulevard de Sébastopol (Paris 4th), turns around and hastily leaves the table. He sees a young dark-haired woman on the second floor of a building: the screams come from a law firm.

The policeman approaches the building and heads for the front door. It was then that two individuals came out and fled: one was “European type», the other of «North African type“. The policeman manages to catch up with the first individual. Alerted by the cries, around thirty passers-by – who had come running from the surrounding terraces – immobilized him. The policeman, assigned to the Ile-de-France network brigade, then sets off on the heels of the second. He manages to grab it and control it on the ground. A gas and a black neck warmer are found on the fugitive.

A flurry of blows

What happened before? It all starts around 3 p.m. when two individuals ring the doorbell of the law firm. They state that they are coming to deliver a package. Problem: they don’t have a package and provide a name “imaginary“. So alone in the office, a lawyer closes the door, finding their behavior suspicious to say the least. But the two individuals persist and ring again a few moments later. Frightened, the lawyer takes fright and calls the police. On the spot, the anti-crime brigade (BAC) finds no one but notices a tear gas canister pin on the floor on the stairs. “Pay attention“, indicate the agents to the lawyer while leaving.

A few minutes later, a second lawyer enters the firm. She returns from the hearing and orders a delivery meal. Shortly after his meal was delivered, someone rang the bell. She goes to the door but sees nothing in the peephole. Informed by her colleague of the suspicious presence of two individuals before her arrival, the lawyer opens the door, on the lookout. She wants to make sure they don’t bother other people in the building. But as she prepares to close the door, an individual – hidden on the landing – rushes at her. Soon followed by a second.

Everything then goes very quickly. The first individual chases her: she finds herself on the ground and takes an avalanche of blows. The second individual sprays tear gas on his side. They throw armchairs, chairs and even a coffee table from the study in his face. The lawyer screams as tear gas goes into her throat. While she tries to defend herself as best she can, her colleague sees the whole scene from the end of the corridor. Despite her crutches, she then rushes to the balcony and screams for help. This is when the off-duty policeman and passers-by, gathered at the bottom of the building, intervene and stop the escape of the attackers.

The inside of the cabinet was ransacked by the two individuals, who knocked over equipment. The two lawyers did not understand why they were there or what they wanted. Still in shock, the two women – in their thirties – thought during the attack that the two individuals wanted to kidnap them. They filed a complaint immediately after the fact. The two arrested, an adult and a minor, were taken into custody. The major will be judged in immediate appearance Thursday, July 8 by the Paris Criminal Court.
