Google has just released a very important update that fixes a total of 11 security vulnerabilities, including 7 critical ones. The vast majority of these faults are not actively exploited in nature. This does not mean that hackers do not exploit at least one of the critical security flaws. Google refrains from revealing more details, while waiting for the update to be installed on as many machines as possible, but the firm reveals that it has detected one of the most serious flaws exploited by hackers.
As a result, Google is urging the 3 billion Chrome users to update their browsers as soon as possible. Google promises to further detail the affected flaws when enough machines have been updated. A usual practice that avoids revealing to hackers literally the procedure to follow to exploit the security flaw. In most cases, it is Google, in particular the researchers of Project Zero, who are at the origin of the discovery of this type of security vulnerabilities.
How to update Google Chrome as soon as possible?
But in this case, it was mainly independent ethical hackers who contributed to uncovering these flaws. Hackers rewarded under the firm’s Bug Bounty program. In addition to these, Google thanks “researchers who worked with us during the development cycle to prevent bugs from spreading to the stable channel”. The most dangerous flaw bears the reference CVE-2022-0609.
Normally security updates are automatically installed in Google Chrome at each start. To try to update your internet browser, we therefore advise you to start by closing and reopening Google Chrome. It is also relatively trivial to force the update search if you find that nothing has installed in the meantime.
For it :
- Go to the three small dots at the top right of the Chrome window (PC and Mac)
- Go into Settings
- Go into About Google Chrome
If an update is available, simply follow the instructions to install it.
