Vet creeps into kennel to sleep next to dog who survived fire

Dog: Taka is an 8-year-old Shiba Inu who almost lost his life due to a terrible fire in his house. He was inside a covered porch and his family was unable to rescue him. Luckily, Taka managed to escape on her own and ran down the street until a neighbor came to her rescue and took her to Care More Animal Hospital in Martinez, Georgia, where a veterinarian give a lot of love.

Emily Martin, a veterinarian at the hospital, told The Dodo:

“He had burns around his eyes, his mouth, his ears, his belly. We didn’t really know the severity of his injuries initially, we had to worry about burns and inhalation. »

Taka has lost his sight, started having breathing problems and had to be transferred to the University of Georgia clinic to be hooked up to an oxygen machine.

Veterinarian sleeps next to injured dog

After a few days, Taka returned to Care More Animal Hospital and vet Emily continued to care for him.

Emily said:

“I try to treat my patients the same way, but his case touched me a little more. When he arrived he was screaming in pain…but he calmed down as soon as I sat down with him and started singing to him.”

Emily contacted Taka’s family, but they decided to hand him over to take care of him and Emily has since become his mother. The hospital does not provide 24-hour care and Emily had to take Taka home to so he can sleep.

Emily said:

“I spent the whole night with him at my house, so the next day we were both exhausted. »

The next day, this vet snuck into Taka’s cage at the hospital to take a nap with him and the moment was captured in a photo. Hospital staff are optimistic about the recovery of Taka, who is a sweet little dog despite everything he’s been through.

Emily said:

“He’s been through something so traumatic and painful, and yet he’s not giving up. It is very resistant. He’s in a lot of pain, so he’s not out of the woods, but we hope he’ll be okay. He loves tummy time petting and he loves food. He also loves hugs. »

Emily thought about adopting Taka, but she feels her house is not an ideal home for him, as she already has five other dogs and a 7-month-old baby.

Emily said that if she doesn’t adopt Taka, she will at least make sure he finds the perfect home with people who will love him and treat him the way he deserves.

UPDATE: Taka has been adopted!

The strength of this dog is incredible. He’s had several surgeries, including one on his eyes to enable him to blink, and he now looks very happy. Looks like Taka is alive again, he’s a brand new dog.

Although Emily did not adopt Taka, Crystal Lesley, who also works at Care More and cared for him, finally decided to keep him. Since no one knows better than her what Taka needs, and since her previous adoptions have not gone through, it seems fate has told her to keep it.
