War in Ukraine – Former Roland-Garros finalist Andrei Medvedev enlists with the Ukrainian army

In 2020, Andrei Medvedev, former Roland-Garros finalist in 1999, and Sergiy Stakhovsky jointly defended the colors of Ukraine in the Davis Cup. The first as captain, the second racket in hand. The two men found themselves in much heavier and more dramatic conditions to defend their country, once again, but this time, in fatigues against the Russian army.

Stakhovsky has, in fact, shared on his Instagram account a photo where he poses with him: “The world tennis legend remained in kyiv and ready to face the enemy. I am extremely happy to see Medvedev on our side“, commented the 33rd player in the world. Known for his striped shorts and his qualities on clay, Andrei Medvedev, 47, therefore joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army like so many Ukrainian sportsmen.
