“It will make you 1,932 euros”
Contrary to popular belief, station rescue is not free: since the Mountain Law of 1987, mayors can send the bill to users.
“In the past, the case was carried out by the gendarmes. But with the explosion of the practice, the profession of tracker was launched, it was necessary to finance the relief, ”explains Jacques Galès, director of tracks and safety at Ax-Trois-Domaines. In the process, an insurance system is set up in the stations, via various companies. “For 3 euros more per day, you are insured”, offers the cashier.
In Ax, on average, 50% of skiers take Assur’Glisse. The others are convinced that they are already covered via their credit card, or their other insurances. “Except that this is rarely the case,” opposes Jacques Galès. Only high-end cards offer this type of service. In short, unless you have taken out high-risk sports insurance (very expensive), it is very likely that you will only have your eyes to cry when it’s time for the tray.
Depending on the stations, the distance to the next hospital and the ambulance market, the prices can be astronomical… In Ax-les-Thermes, they are also displayed at the entrance to the station. If you have subscribed to it, in the event of an accident, the rescue costs are covered, as well as the possible repatriation of the injured person and his family, while ski passes and ski lessons are reimbursed. Three euros will never have been so well spent…
